good host

Being a good host is important in my family.  This is an opportunity to show your visitors your home and the way your family look after each other.  I will explain three ways you can be a good host. Welcome your visitors into your home.  When you hear a knock at the door, open your door and welcome the guest into  your home. Make sure you sound happy to do this to put them as ease as they enter.  Welcome guests into your home is the first show of good hospitality, to simply talk and then farewell them all at your doorstep in my culture is rude. Now that our guests are sitting comfortably in your sitting room or lounge, offer them drink and food.   While they will typically say no, it is good practice to have someone in the family bring out a cup of tea, biscuits or anything light that would go with the cuppa.  If it is near a big meal time, welcome them to the table to share the meal with your family. This shows that your family is kind and generous to people PLUS it makes them feel very welcome

Multiplication Magic

  Multiplication Magic
We are learning to use place value to solve multiplication problems using whole numbers.

Times table practice:
5 x 5 =  25                         7x7=49
4 x 4=    16                         8 x 8=64
3 x 3 = 9                                  11x 11= 121
6 x 6= 36                                 5 x 4= 20
9 x 9 = 81                                   10 x 10= 100

Factors of 16 = numbers that fit into 16, 8, 2, 4

Multiples of 8 = 8, 16, 24, 32...  ,80

A prime number is 3, 5, 1. Only can be divided by themself and 1

25 x 25 = 625
20 x 25 =500
5 x 25 = 125

25 x 245 =
200 x 25 =5000
40 x 25 = 800 + 200  = 1000
5 x 25 =100 + 25 = 125
5000 + 1000 + 125 = 6125

267 x 250 = 53400
200 x 267 =
7x200= 1400
60x 200 = 1200
200 x 200 = 40000
40, 000 + 12, 000 + 1400
53400

50 x 267 =13350
50 x200 10,000
50 x 60 = 3000
50 x7 = 350
13350

Show your working under each problem:

1.  Mrs Flavelle orders 15 boxes of cookies for camp. If each box contains 18 cookies. How many are there altogether?
15 x 18 270
15 x 10 = 150
15x 8 120
270 + 150 +120 = 140 + 400 =540
2. Mrs Tele’a orders 12 cans of beans for camp. Each tin contains 240 beans. How many individual beans has she ordered?
10x 240 =2400
2 x 240 480
2880

3. Room 4 are baking a rectangular cake for the garage sale. It is 22cm long and 16cm wide. What is the area of the cake?

16 x 20 =320
16 x 2 =32
352

4. Marika has brought some lollies in to share with the class for her birthday. She has brought 14 packets which contain 32 lollies each. How many lollies are there altogether?
32 x 10 = 320
32 x 4=128
448

5. If each of the 160 students in team five paid 135 dollars for camp, how much money would the camp make from our visit?

160 x 100 = 16000
160 x 30 = 1800 + 3000 = 4800
160 x 5 = 300 + 500 =800

800+800 1600 +4000+5600

math for today

   Adorable Addition
We are learning to use place value to solve addition problems using whole numbers.

Multiple and factors practice

Multiples of 4 to 10 = 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40

Multiples of 5 to 10 = 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50

Factors of 24 = 4, 3, 6,

Factors of 50 =10, 5,

Factors of 24 and 40 = 2, 12

AJ’s family are planning to build a treehouse in their garden. Some of Aj’s friends offer to help him to build it.

1. In order to start constructing the house,  AJ needs to get some wood from bunnings. His mum buys 45 planks of wood and his dad buys 132 planks of wood. How many do they have together?
132 + 45
132 + 45 = 177

 2. While building the house, AJ noticed that they were running out of nails so he went to buy some. They have 9 nails left at home. AJ  buys a pack of 145 nails and a pack of 50 nails. How many nails do they have now?
9 + 145 + 50
9 + 145 = 140 + 14 = 154
154 + 50 = 204

3. To have a more stable treehouse, Jacob decided to tie the corner posts of the house to the tree itself. He used 24 cm of rope for the first post, 20cm on the second, 14cm on the third and 12cm on the fourth. How much rope was used?
24 + 20 + 14 + 12    70

4. The treehouse is almost done; all they need is to paint it. Paschal estimated that they will use 37L of white paint, 15L of green paint and 34L  of brown paint. How many litres of paint would they buy in total?

37 + 15 =  52 + 34 = 86

5. After finishing the treehouse, AJs’ family made cookies for his friends to thank them for helping. If AJ ate 15 cookies, Jacob ate 10, Paschal ate 6  and Tisa only ate 5, how many cookies were eaten in total?

15 + 10 + 6 + 5 = 36

Show your working as you solve these problems:

145 + 235 = 380

134 + 127 = 261

1445 + 1564 = 3009

1235 + 5643 = 6878
