Multiplication Magic

  Multiplication Magic
We are learning to use place value to solve multiplication problems using whole numbers.

Times table practice:
5 x 5 =  25                         7x7=49
4 x 4=    16                         8 x 8=64
3 x 3 = 9                                  11x 11= 121
6 x 6= 36                                 5 x 4= 20
9 x 9 = 81                                   10 x 10= 100

Factors of 16 = numbers that fit into 16, 8, 2, 4

Multiples of 8 = 8, 16, 24, 32...  ,80

A prime number is 3, 5, 1. Only can be divided by themself and 1

25 x 25 = 625
20 x 25 =500
5 x 25 = 125

25 x 245 =
200 x 25 =5000
40 x 25 = 800 + 200  = 1000
5 x 25 =100 + 25 = 125
5000 + 1000 + 125 = 6125

267 x 250 = 53400
200 x 267 =
7x200= 1400
60x 200 = 1200
200 x 200 = 40000
40, 000 + 12, 000 + 1400
53400

50 x 267 =13350
50 x200 10,000
50 x 60 = 3000
50 x7 = 350
13350

Show your working under each problem:

1.  Mrs Flavelle orders 15 boxes of cookies for camp. If each box contains 18 cookies. How many are there altogether?
15 x 18 270
15 x 10 = 150
15x 8 120
270 + 150 +120 = 140 + 400 =540
2. Mrs Tele’a orders 12 cans of beans for camp. Each tin contains 240 beans. How many individual beans has she ordered?
10x 240 =2400
2 x 240 480
2880

3. Room 4 are baking a rectangular cake for the garage sale. It is 22cm long and 16cm wide. What is the area of the cake?

16 x 20 =320
16 x 2 =32
352

4. Marika has brought some lollies in to share with the class for her birthday. She has brought 14 packets which contain 32 lollies each. How many lollies are there altogether?
32 x 10 = 320
32 x 4=128
448

5. If each of the 160 students in team five paid 135 dollars for camp, how much money would the camp make from our visit?

160 x 100 = 16000
160 x 30 = 1800 + 3000 = 4800
160 x 5 = 300 + 500 =800

800+800 1600 +4000+5600
